Former co-owner of City Dairy
W.J. "Willie" McMurry, 79, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in Alamogordo.
Mr. McMurry was born Dec. 25, 1928, in Black, Texas, to Finis E. and Virginia (Houston) McMurry. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1946. He and his brothers, George and Mac, started City Dairy, which they operated until 1976.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Bessie "Patsy" (Wooten) McMurry, of the family home; four sons, Tom McMurry and his wife Theresa, of Alamogordo, Ted McMurry and his wife Jody, of Ozark, Mo., Tim McMurry and his wife Melody, of Dallas and Pat McMurry and his wife Karen, of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Sally McMurry, of Alamogordo, and Susan Galloway and her husband John, of Tularosa; 10 grandchildren, Jamie McMurry, Mike McMurry, Tonya McMurry, Eric McMurry, Kristin McMurry, Ty McMurrt, Timel McMurry, T.J. McMurry, Samantha Galloway and Sean Galloway; two brothers, Ken McMurry, of Alamogordo, and Don McMurry, of Los Alamos; and five sisters, Elizabeth James, of Canyon, Texas, Virginia Weaver, of Alamogordo, Martha Nolan, of Austin, Texas, Margaret Swanson, of T or C, and Kathy Kicklighter, of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and Mac; and three sisters, Mildred Barnett, Mary Blazer and Doris Weaver.
A memorial service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel with Tom McMurry officiating.
Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in Monte Vista Cemetery.
