Walter McGoldrick Obituary
Walter McGoldrick Jr., 74, passed away April 13, 2013, at his home in Alamogordo. He was born Nov. 6, 1938, in El Paso to Walter and Margarita Orta McGoldrick.
Mr. McGoldrick proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1961. He moved his family from El Paso to Alamogordo, where he then spent 30 years working at W.S.M.R. Upon retiring, he held the position of chief of radar surveillance for Newtec. Walter - above and foremost - was a loving, caring and gentle husband, father and grandfather. Family always was of the utmost importance to this gentle man and he enthusiastically participated in numerous activities through the years with his wife and children. His relationship and love for his one and only grandson was so incredibly special and the two were inseparable during their time together. His relationship with God also was very much evident in his life and was a long-time contributing member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Alamogordo, where he and his wife were the first to bring in a Mariachi group and the Paso del Norte Ballet Folklorico from El Paso to the church's annual fiestas.
As a friend to anyone and everyone who came to know him, he was loyal, a good listener and would share his unique sense of humor with you. He enjoyed keeping physically active throughout his life. In his early years, he ran regularly and always had a love of golf. In his later years, he was able to enjoy playing the game with his son, daughter and friends, as well as attend a PGA golf tournament where he was able to be among his favorite pros.
Over the last few years, Walter also had a loyal companion named Night Train (a.k.a. Dallas) - his beloved dog. The two would spend time going for walks and driving around town in Walter's truck. Walter will be missed and loved by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Alicia McGoldrick, of the family home; son Raymond L. McGoldrick, of Alamogordo; daughter Catherine M. McGoldrick, of Aurora, Ill.; grandson, Andrew R. McGoldrick, of Pensacola, Fla., sisters Annie Wasicki, Sr. Mary Judith McGoldrick and Virginia Saavedra; brothers Johnny McGoldrick and Frank McGoldrick; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by father Walter Joseph McGoldrick Sr., mother Margarita McGoldrick and his brother Thomas McGoldrick.
The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 201, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Toni Gutierrez.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Mike Lindsay, Celebrant. Military Honors will be provided by the Holloman Air Force Base Steel Talons Honor Guard.
