Longtime resident
Wanda Lee Goecke, 86, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, died Monday, April 6, 2009, in Portales.
Wanda was born June 25, 1922, in Grafton, N.D., to Nels and Olga Lee. She married R. Richard "Dick" Goecke on April 8, 1945, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Fargo, N.D. They moved from Minnesota to Alamogordo in 1960. Mrs. Goecke was the library director at Holloman Air Force Base until her retirement. She was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and attended North Dakota State. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and Chapter AO of P.E.O.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Othick of Las Vegas, and Marnee Stratton and her husband, Mike, of Portales; seven grandchildren, Alyssa Idsinga and her husband, Jim, April Rutter and her husband, Wade, Andrea Hunton and her husband, Paul, Abigail Pritchett and her husband, Seth, and Adrianna Stratton, all of Portales, Matt Othick and his wife, Kimia, and Trent Othick and his wife, Erin of Las Vegas; 16 great-grandchildren, James Michael and Ashlynn Idsinga, Tre, Emma and Kate Hunton, Natalie, Tyler and Dylan Othick, Elijah, Addison and Ella Pritchett, Morgan, Megan and Joey Rutter, and Chase and Layla Othick; two sisters, Gwen Solien and her husband, Wally, of Moorhead, Minn., and Pat Melby of Cortez, Colo.; a brother-in-law, James Goecke and his wife, Sheila of Bismarck, N.D.; and a sister-in-law Ruth Goecke of Osakis, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1971; and a brother-in-law, Clayt Melby.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 9, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Alamogordo with Pastor Bruce Freeman officiating.
Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery with Matt Othick, Trent Othick, Mike Stratton, Buddy Othick, Jim Idsinga Jr., Paul Hunton, Seth Pritchett and Wade Rutter serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Morton, Emmett Schmitt, Jim Hoidahl, Rod Westphal, Gary King, Bob Skaar, Wally Solien, Jim Goecke, Bob Hamilton and "The Gang."
Services are under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
