Ward William "Bill" Leis II Obituary

Ward William (Bill) Leis II, 80, passed away on April 24, 2014, at his home in Tularosa.
He was born in 1933 in Pasadena, Calif. to Dr. Ward William Leis and Susan Elizabeth Wysong.

He is survived by his beloved wife Diane Malinowski Leis of 42 years; children, William Leis, Barbara DeNike and Patrick, Brenda Glende and Joel; ex daughter-in-law Martina Leis; thirteen grandkids; seven great grandkids (No. 8 due in August); two brothers, Dorvin Leis and Betty, Donald Leis and Carol; mother-in-law, Jennie Malinowski; brothers-in-law, Stefan Malinowski and Hyginia; Michael Malinowski and Judy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bill graduated from Pasadena High School in 1951; Cal Poly, Pomona in 1961; and from the Border Patrol Academy in 1961 (79th session). He served during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954; U.S.
Border Patrol from 1961 to 1967 (Douglas, Ariz. and Chula Vista, Calif.); and was a Criminal Investigator with The Immigration Service in New York City from 1967 to 1970 and San Francisco from 1970 to 1984, where he retired.
He was a member of FORBPO, American Legion Post 0108; VFW Post 7686; Elks Lodge 1897; NARFE (Officer in Prescott, Ariz.); AFGE (Served in Union Sector); and National Association of Criminal Investigators. He also did volunteer work with the VA Hospital in Prescott, Ariz.; Yavapai County Search and Rescue and with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office in Prescott, Ariz.
After retirement in San Francisco, Bill and Diane moved to Prescott, Ariz. and then to Tularosa in 2004. Bill loved to pack up the RV and head out with Diane to explore the country and made it a priority to visit his children and their families each year, along with the many friends they kept in contact with over the years. They also belonged to the Los Paisanos RV group and The Traveling Elks Group of Alamogordo which made their travels to different places an enjoyable

As per his request, he was cremated and a private family memorial was held.

The Leis family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
