Warren ‘Ed’ Woods Obituary
Warren ""Ed"" Woods, 91, passed away May 30, 2013, in Alamogordo. He was born May 22, 1922, in Ralston, Okla.
Ed was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II; he worked in procurement and was stationed at several bases during his tenure. After arriving in Alamogordo in 1956 with his first wife Mildred and family, he was employed by Price's Dairy and then spent many years working in procurement in civil- service positions at Holloman Air Force Base. He retired in January 1984. Mildred passed away in 2001.
Ed met the second love of his life, Susie Penka, in 2002 and they married in 2005. They made their home in Alamogordo and enjoyed wonderful times with family and friends. Ed and Susie were active in Bethel Baptist Church and St. Jude's Mission in Alamogordo.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Woods, of the family home in Alamogordo; daughters Mary Mooney and husband, Bill, of Alamogordo; Minnie Norman and husband, Randy, of Payson, Ariz.; Marcia Clark and husband, Larry, of Alamogordo; Becky Sides and husband, Jim, of Alamogordo; Barbara Woods, of Alamogordo; step-daughter Michelle Gower and husband, Todd, of Alamogordo; step-sons Todd Penka of Vineland, N.J., and Patrick Penka, of Midway City, Calif.
Ed is also survived by 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as ""Poppie."" He loved them all dearly and cherished every moment with them. They include Theresa Smith and husband, Kenny, of Storrs, Conn.; Cindy Preslar and husband, Matt, of Cloudcroft; Teresa DeBusk and husband, Michael, of Noble, Okla.; Heather Clark, of El Paso; Randi Norman, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Brian Norman, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Jamie Prather and husband, Josh, of Alamogordo; Josh Sides and wife, Shelly, of Alamogordo; Jacob, John and Megan Gower, of Alamogordo; Sara Penka, of N.J.; Devin and Courtney;
his great-grandchildren include Justin and Elizabeth Smith, Storrs; Colton and Payton DeBusk, Noble, Okla.; Max and Ricky Preslar, of Cloudcroft; Meghann and Noah Prather, of Alamogordo; Brendyn Sides of Alamogordo.
A memorial service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Monday June 3 with Pastor Howell Scott and Pastor Billy Tucker officiating. Inurement will be in Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1316 Scenic Dr., Alamogordo, or Gideons International.
