Wayne Allen Walker

Obituary Condolences

Wayne was born in Ansley, Nebraska, on July 22, 1926.
He lost his dad at the young age of six. A couple of years after his dads passing, his mom remarried. The family, consisting of his mom, stepdad, brother and Wayne moved to the then sleepy and safe city of Los Angeles.

Wayne formed lifelong friendships with six neighborhood guys and, together, they had a great time going to the beach and mountains. When the attacks on Pearl Harbor occurred on December 7, 1941, all six friends decided to step-up and fight for their country. The day Wayne turned 17 he enlisted in the Navy. Much to his chagrin, his entire Navy career was spent on the east coast. He described himself as being an under paid defense worker. However, this assignment set the tone for his choice of career for the rest of his life. He trained pilots to use the rudimentary point and shoot to fire air to ground missiles. This experience led him into the field of research and development of drones and weapons. In 1956, the company he worked for sent him to Alamogordo. Wayne fell in love with the area. For the exception of two short times, one in South Dakota and the other in California, he spent the rest of his life here.

He had a diversity of interests. He enjoyed being treasurer of the endowment committee at Grace Methodist, was a medal winning Senior Olympic table tennis athlete, scuba diver, camper, NASCAR fan, traveler and loving up on grandchildren. His health problems prevented him from completing his dream of restoring his 1968 Mustang convertible, although he did get to see its complete remodel before his passing.

Wayne leaves behind his wife, Reneé, and children Daniel (Carla), Jennifer Parten, Joe (Anita) Southard, Rusty (Sandra) Southard, Matthew (Liza) Southard, and Erik Southard. He had 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two cousins, two nieces and one nephew.

Cremation will take place at PCS.

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Grace United Methodist Church

The Walker family has entrusted their loved one to the care of PCS Direct Cremation Service to direct the funeral services.
