William H. "Bags" Bagwell Obituary
Retired Senior Master Sgt. William H. "Bags" Bagwell, U.S.A.F., 66, of Alamogordo, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2011. He was born Jan. 28, 1945, in Everett, Wash, to the late William M. and Priscilla E. (Batterson) Bagwell.
Bill enlisted in the Air Force in October 1963. While serving in Okinawa, Japan, he met and married his wife of 44 years, Toshi Iju. After 26 years of service, he retired on Dec. 31, 1989. Bill received his associates degree from New Mexico State University-Alamogordo, a bachelor's degree from Park University, and a master's degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
After completing his education, he was the center director for Embry-Riddle at Holloman Air Force Base until he retired in April 2010.
After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife at the Alamo Senior Center, and shooting pool in the city pool league at VFW Post 7686.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Toshi Bagwell; son Billy Bagwell, of Alamogordo; and sister Dorna Larson of Everett.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011. Visitation will take place before the service from 9-10:45 a.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Moon officiating.
Bobby Hays, Ricardo "Cardo" Maynez, David "Chino" Rowe, Roy Brady, Justin McIntosh and Michael Bayles will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers are Brian K. Hamilton, Wiremu "Mu" Taiaroa, George A. Sandoval II, Randy Jackson, Richard Gomez, Michael Martin, Carlos Colmenero, Richard Webster and Andy Nejeres.
Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery with military honors provided by the Holloman Air Force Base Steel Talons Honor Guard.
The Bagwell family would like to thank the officers from the Alamogordo Department of Public Safety, the emergency medical technicians from American Medical Response and the staff at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center for all their efforts.
The family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
