Building Trades Instructor 
William Howard "Howard" Hunter, 79, of Alamogordo, passed away Friday, August 29, 2008, at his residence.
Howard was born June 14, 1929, in Vernon, Texas, to Frank and Dora Belle Hunter. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served as a New Mexico State Police Officer in the late 50's and early 60's, and then as an Abilene, Kan., city policeman. Afterwards, from 1972 through 1992, he was employed at Alamogordo High School as a Building Trades Instructor and built many homes in Alamogordo.
After retirement, he went to work at Mesa Verde Enterprises, and then went on to finish his working career at One Stop Auto Parts. 
While at Alamogordo High School, he was one of the founders of the Rodeo Club and was its Sponsor for many years. He was also very active in the High School Rodeo Boosters. He loved coaching Pony League and Babe Ruth Baseball during the summer months for several years, and was an avid supporter of all youth activities.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemarie Hunter, his parents, a sister, Billie Mae, and two brothers, Earl and Milford.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Taylor and husband Ron of Roswell, and Amy Cook and husband Tommy of the family home; five sons, David Hunter and wife Karen of Alamogordo, John Hunter of Weatherford, Texas, Tom Hunter of Lovington, Bo Hunter,  and Jimmy Hunter and wife Amanda, all of Artesia; several grandchildren, including William and Cory of the family home and his brother, Albert "Bo" Hunter of Pueblo, Colo.
Memorial services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at the
Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel with Mac McCutcheon officiating. A reception will follow at the funeral home.
The Hunter Family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the family to help defray costs.
