William James MacVeigh Obituary
William James (Bill) MacVeigh passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at his home in Alamogordo.
Bill was born in Camden, N.J., Dec. 15, 1923, to parents William James Sr. and Sophie Christine MacVeigh. Bill was stationed at Oscuro Army Range Camp just before World War II began. While in Carrizozo, he met Margaret Elizabeth Jordan. When the war began, Bill was transferred to a B-17 base in England for the duration of the war.
When the war ended, Bill came home from Europe. He traveled to New Mexico to marry Liz Jordan on June 8, 1946, at the Freeman Ranch outside of Carrizozo. Liz preceded him in death on March 22, 2013.
Bill and Liz MacVeigh owned and operated The Grocery Basket in Carrizozo for many years before selling the store and retiring to Alamogordo.
Bill MacVeigh is survived by his son Bill and daughter-in-law Dottie MacVeigh, of Capitan, and his grandson Matt MacVeigh and wife, Stephanie, and grandchildren Ashlyn and Brayden MacVeigh, all of Frisco, Texas.
Bill was a long-time member of the Carrizozo Masonic Lodge #41, the Alamogordo Masonic Lodge as well as the Tularosa Masonic Lodge. He was especially proud of his grandson Matt and his family Stephanie, Ashlyn and Brayden.
A graveside Masonic service will be held at the Tularosa Masonic Cemetery in Tularosa, at 10 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013.
The MacVeigh family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
