William Joel "Bill" Lubenau Obituary
William "Bill" Joel Lubenau passed away suddenly at his home in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 19, 2010. He was born to Thomas R. and Harriet (Johnston) Lubenau on Dec. 21, 1958, in Alamogordo.
Bill was baptized as an infant at St. John's Episcopal Church where he grew up and in his youth served as an acolyte. He attended Alamogordo Public Schools where he participated in sports, band and took building trades classes, which sparked his interest in the construction field. After high school he worked for a number of years for Mike Drunzer Construction. He eventually was encouraged by Drunzer to get his own contractor's license and for the past 19 years he and his wife have owned and operated Bill Lubenau Construction Inc.
Bill had a passion for hunting and fishing. He was never happier than when he and his sons were at Elephant Butte or camping in the mountains. Bill had a reputation in the community for knowing where the fish were biting. Out of his love of fishing came his side business, High Sierra Fishing Charter, which he operated with the help of his sons. He was a person who loved life to the fullest and lived it that way - it was not uncommon to see Bill and Vicky having friends over for a cookout. Bill could grill the best ribs anyone has ever tasted.
Bill will be missed by his wife, Victoria "Vicky" Lubenau; sons Thomas "Tommy" James Lubenau and William "Will" Joel Lubenau Jr.; his parents Thomas R. and Harriet Lubenau; brother Thomas J. Lubenau and his wife, Carol, of Seattle, Wash.; sister Dr. Jeanette Lubenau-Huseman and her husband, Lonny, of Lubbock, Texas; father-in-law and mother-in-law Harold and Martha Baca, of Soccorro; sister-in-law Rebecca Baca, of Albuquerque; sister-in-law Kate Tenorio and husband, Chris, of Santa Rosa; brother-in-law Shane Baca and his wife, Emma, of Bosquecito; uncles Joel Lubenau and his wife, Ann, of Lititz, Pa., and James Johnston and his wife, Joan, of Lake Wales, Fla.; his godmother, Edith Olsen, of Long Island, N.Y.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many very close friends. His smile, laughter and generous spirit will always be remembered.
Bill was preceded in death by his son Randy Billy Joel Lubenau.
A celebration of his life will be held at Christ Community Church, 2960 Scenic Drive, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2010, with Pastor Jack D. Brock officiating. Alamogordo Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.
