William Lee "Red" Gibson Obituary
William Lee "Red" Gibson, 87, died Sunday, June 13, 2010, in Ballston Lake, N.Y. He was born Nov. 26, 1922, in El Paso.
He is survived by his daughter Mary Susan Gibson Fields and her husband, Glenn S. Fields, of Ballston Lake; grandchildren Laura, Lex, and Cheryl; his brother James Gibson of Edgewood, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Lee Gibson and Sadie Agusta Martin; his wife Frieda Humphreys; his brother Richard Gibson and sister Mary Fern Barker, both of Socorro, N.M.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater as a chief electrician aboard the USS Indianapolis (CA-35). He also served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters aboard USS Capps (DD-550). He served in the Atlantic after WWII aboard the USS Princeton (CV-37).
A long-term resident of Alamogordo, he was president of Gibson Trucking until the mid-1980s. He was also president of Taos Timber, lived in Santa Fe for 10 years under contract to Pot Creek Lumber, and worked as a subcontractor to M&K Construction, building dams all over the northwestern United States.
He was a long-term member of the Alamogordo Sertoma Club and BPO Elks Lodge.
