1918 - 2007 Obituary Condolences
Beloved veterinarian 'Doc Pitt'
William Leon Pitt Sr., DVM, passed away Nov. 28, 2007, while at the Mescalero Care Center. Dr. Pitt was born at home outside of Dunning, Neb., on Jan. 27, 1918, to William N. Pitt and Mary Gertrude Rooney Pitt.
From 1963 until the late 1990s he was a veterinarian for the New Mexico Horse Racing Commission. He also had a full-time practice across south central New Mexico. Doc loved caring for animals, telling stories and jokes to his many friends and bragging about his grandkids.
Doc is survived by his daughter, Suse Townsend and husband James, of Ruidoso, and his four grandchildren, Danielle Kusmak and husband Adam, of Tularosa, Tara Green and husband Wes, of Alamogordo, Jesse Townsend, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Matthew Townsend, of Ruidoso. He is also survived by two great-grandsons, Wyatt Green and Kaleb Kusmak.
Memorial services will be at the Ruidoso Downs Race Track Chapel Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m.
Cremation will take place locally at PCS entrusted to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
