Dr. William Ober Reynolds, D.O., 97
William Ober Reynolds, D.O., 97, a long-time resident of Alamogordo, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at his residence.
He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Danner Reynolds, who passed away in March 2008. He was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Lucerne, Mo. Dr. Reynolds was the son of the late William Douglas and Zeddie Zeola (Haynes) Reynolds.
A graduate of Kline high school in Kline, Mont., Dr. Reynolds went on to graduate from Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery in May 1939. He started a general practice in Capitan until the love of his country prompted him to enlist in U.S. Navy from 1942-45.
After serving his country, Dr. Reynolds served his residency at Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery from 1945-47. From there, he went on to Raton and joined the Donovan Hospital staff until 1950. He later returned to Kirksville College, where he was a professor of OBGYN, as well as having his own family practice.
In 1959, Dr. Reynolds moved to Albuquerque, where he opened a general practice and joined the staff of University Heights Hospital, also in Albuquerque. In 1976, he took his practice to Alamogordo and was the first osteopathic surgeon to join Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center. Following a long and successful career that included a 10-year term on the New Mexico State Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, Dr. Reynolds retired in 1996.
He is survived by three sons, Warren H. Reynolds, Russell A. Reynolds and Ralph Davis, all of Alamogordo; four daughters, B.J., wife of Thomas Shields, and Judy A. Davis, of Alamogordo, Donna K. Reynolds, of Las Cruces, and Bonnie L., wife of Clayton Hargrove, of Sante Fe; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
At Dr. Reynolds' request, there will be no funeral services.
The Reynolds family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
