William W. "Bill" Spugnardi, 82, of Alamogordo, died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Casa Arena Blanca Nursing Center.
Spugnardi was born March 3, 1927, in Bowling Green, Ky., to Lawrence Michael and Mary (Cosby) Spugnardi. He served in World War II with the U.S. Navy Seabees. He also joined the U.S. Army, where he served during the Korean War with the Airborne Infantry, then in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. He retired in 1970 as a lieutenant colonel.
Survivors include his wife B.J. Cosby, of Palm Desert, Calif.; a son John Spugnardi and his wife, Kim, of Alamogordo; two grandchildren, Marcia Leon Mireles, of Frankfort, Ky., and John Michael Spugnardi Jr. of Kansas; and two great-grandchildren, John Conras Spugnardi and James Spugnardi, both of Salinas, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Hilda Marie Spugnardi, in 1990.
Committal services will be conducted Friday, May 8, at 1 p.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Bliss Honor Guard.
Services are under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
