William T. "Pete" Shockey, 59, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, in Alamogordo
Pete was born Jan. 30, 1950, in Santa Fe, and had lived in Alamogordo since 1956. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1968 and became a technician for Sears where he worked for 19 years. He then was employed by Charles Rivers Laboratories at Holloman Air Force Base whaere he also worked for 19 years until his medical retirement.
Pete was a very involved volunteer, especially with children, as a 4-H leader with La Luz 4-H Club, the Alamogordo Public Schools track teams, as a coach and assistant with the Youth Soccer League for his sons, over 29 years as a volunteer with the 4-H and FFA programs, and a member of the Fair Board since 2003. He was an honorary member of both the Alamogordo and Carrizozo FFA Chapters, and a member of the Foundation Beefmasters Association. In 2002 he was inducted into the Junior Livestock Ring of Honor by the Otero County Fair Association. Pete particularly loved hunting with his sons.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Wanda Shockey, of the family home; three sons, Kenneth Shockey of Alamogordo, Wayne Shockey and his wife Jean of Ruidoso, and Gary Shockey of Alamogordo; one grandson Caden Shockey of Alamogordo; his parents, Jim and Ouita Shockey of Alamogordo; two brothers, Jerry Shockey and his wife Mary of Bloomfield, New Mexico, and Jay Shockey and his wife Maria of Mandeville, Louisiana; his father and mother-in-law, Jesse and Clotha Hudman of Alamogordo; two sisters-in-law, Viola Martin and her husband Harold of Arkansas, and Janet Derrick and her husband Donald of Mayhill; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family who loved him greatly.
A memorial service will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 16th St. and Cuba Ave., with the Rev. Dr. Steve Trout officiating.
Cremation has taken place and services are under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
