Wilmer M. “Red” Soistman Obituary

Master Sgt. U.S.A.F., Retired.

Wilmer M. "Red" Soistman, 81, passed away on July 6, 2015. He was born on November 3, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland to Charles and Cora (Revelle) Soistman.

Mr. Soistman was a U.S. Air Force veteran retiring in 1972. For the next 20 years he was a recreation director, dean of students and residential life manager at the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. During the years he resided in Alamogordo, he made numerous friends and helped many people. He enjoyed working as a Recreation Director during his time in the Military and he loved participating in sporting events. One of his big accomplishments was playing volleyball for the U.S. Air Force team. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events through the years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Soistman; three sons, Wilmer M. (Lynn) Soistman Jr. of Alamogordo, NM, Greg A. Soistman of Alamogordo, NM, Brian E. (Valerie) Soistman of Brazoria, Texas; daughter, Jamie S. (Robert) Giddens of Lubbock, Texas; a sister, Marian Anderson of Baltimore, Maryland; eight grandchildren, James Soistman, Christine Patel, Kayleigh Giddens, Sarah Soistman, Kalani Giddens, Emoree Giddens, Marissa Soistman and Bryson Soistman; four great grandchildren, Jordyn Soistman, Cameron Soistman, Arianna Ellis, and Ethan Ellis; a host of nieces and nephews, and a very dear best friend for over 50 years, Donald Carlson.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Cora Ward Soistman; step-father, Edward "Pop" Heinle; father, Charles J. Soistman; brothers, Charles J. "Reds" Soistman and Herbert Harry "Curly" Soistman; and sister, Carolyn Alesci.

The memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., July 10, 2015 at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Camp officiating.

The Soistman family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. Cremation will take place at PCS.
