Winnie Lee Deegan

1923 - 2015 Obituary Condolences

Our sweet and gentle, Mother and Grandmother was born in Manor, Georgia, December 24, 1923 to Emma Corbett Hewett and Robert Henry Hewett - she passed away at 9 a.m. Sunday morning, April 26, 2015.

She had seven siblings: Arthur Hewett, Robert H. Hewett; "Buddy" - James David Hewett, Virue Corbett Hewett, Mary Ann Hewett and Ester Mae Hewett, the only surviving and youngest sibling.

Winnie graduated from High School in Manor, Georgia. She married John W Deegan on November 11, 1946, 63 years ago. They lived in Florida, California and settled in Alamogordo, New Mexico, in 1963. They have three daughters all born in Jacksonville, Florida.

She is survived by daughters; Carol M. Deegan Bruce and Frances M. Deegan Davis; son-in-law, Tim Davis; three granddaughters, Amber Leigh Moffett her husband, Ricky Moffett and their son, John Moffett, John's sons, Jacob Moffett, 11, and Jordan Moffett, 8, April Michelle Bright and her son Jayden Bright, 8, Jessica Saleigh Robinette and husband Levi Robinette and their daughters, Taylor Ann Robinette, 8, and Finley Grace Robinette, 3.

She was preceded in death by her husband John W. Deegan, and her eldest daughter Melody Jean Deegan Chessman.

Winnie's first and foremost interest was her family. She loved her daughters and grandchildren beyond measure, spoiled each one. There was never a moment in life we didn't know we were loved. She was always grateful for everything she had being raised in Georgia during the Depression and WWII, the daughter of a share cropper farmer.

Winnie was cremated Tuesday, April 28, 2015. We will be having a small memorial service for Winnie at our home the end of May. We will be planting a Mimosa tree in her honor. Close family friends will be notified.

To sum up Winnie Lee Deegan, she is a sweet and gentle soul and the best Mother and Granny in the universe - in our biased and humble opinion. All who knew her loved her.

Direct Cremation has taken place under the care of PCS Direct Cremation Services.
