Jose Genaro Garcia Obituary
Jose Genaro Garcia, also known as "Manitas", "Naro", or "Big Joe", passed away peacefully on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the age of 82.

He was born and raised in Ben Bolt, Texas and lived in Alice. He was preceded in death by the love of his life of 57 years, Anita Paez Garcia and his eldest son, Jose Genaro Garcia, Jr. "J. G.". He was also preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Aeropajita Garcia, brothers, Santiago "Chago" Garcia, Guadalupe "Lupin" Garcia, Jesus Maria "Chuy" Garcia; his sisters, Eleuteria "Lula" Garcia, and Gilda Chapa; as well as his daughter-in-law, Irma Alaniz Garcia.

He is survived by his children, Santiago "Jimmy" Garcia of Alice and his daughter, Sylvia Ann Garcia of San Marcos. He is also survived by his sisters, Chela Infante, Esmeralda (Joe) Lozano, Elva (Isaul) Guerra; his brother, Jose Alejo (Sylvia) Garcia; as well as numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended family and cherished friends.

Genaro never met a stranger and was well liked by all who met him. He loved making new friends wherever he went. He was outwardly strong, but inwardly kind and soft-hearted. He worked hard all of his life, even as a youth to help his family and did the same for his family, once he married.

He worked in the oilfield and water-well business, before he began to work for Reynolds Aluminum for 31 years, before he retired in April of 1998. He was very well respected by all who worked with him and those who knew him. He was a man of integrity who believed in hard work, loyalty, and a strong work ethic, which he passed on to his children.

He had much common sense "Farmer Joe Smart". There was NOTHING he could not figure out or fix. He loved the outdoors, riding horses, hunting, the ranch, his family, all of nature, and all things God created. He saw the beauty of God at work in the land around him and in nature. A one-of-a-kind man, he will be greatly missed by all.

Special thanks to Ivon Varela Lopez who cared for "Don Jose" as though he was her own father.

Special thanks to Healthy Horizons Hospice team, especially David, Gabby, and Betty for their compassionate care of our Dad. Thanks to PAM Saratoga, Unit 1 / PT staff for the awesome care that he received during his stay there, as well as the staff of Meridian Care of Alice for the kindness and care shown him while he was there. We thank all of our family and friends for all of their loving support, prayers, and visits that meant so much to Dad and to our family.

As Dad would always say, "Portate bien porque no te cuesta nada!"

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel. Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
