Philip David Lamprecht

We lost our beloved father and "Papi," Philip David Lamprecht, on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2016. His influence and example as a father, grandfather, friend, brother, neighbor and provider will always be in our hearts, remaining alive through memory. We miss you dad.
Philip was born on June 4, 1941 in Thomas, Idaho to Katherina and Emil Sr. Lamprecht. He grew up on the family farm, where he learned the value of hard work, the importance of family traditions and his love of competition with his brothers. These early farm experiences were often the basis for many of the stories he would share with his posterity. The "farm" continues to hold our father's essence.
He attended Snake River High School, where he participated in track and basketball. After high school, he attended Ricks College for two years, where he developed a love for playing cards and accounting. He then attended Idaho State, eventually earning a degree in Accounting. He ultimately received his MA in Accounting at the University of Idaho. Becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) was his dream, professionally. His first job as a CPA was in the state of Washington. He loved it there but chose to move closer to home, settling in Pocatello. He spent over 30 years in practice at a local accounting firm, Jordan and Company, before moving on to practice independently toward the end of his life.
Shortly after moving to Pocatello, he met Marsha Ilene Harris, a small town girl with no farm stories. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 8, 1970. Phil and Marsha had three wonderful sons, who became his best friends, whom he adored and cherished throughout his life. His sons respected and admired him greatly, appreciating the depth of sacrifice, struggle and legacy that he left in his wake.
Though flawed, he embodied everything a son could hope for in a mortal father. He instilled hard work, a spirit of competition, honesty and service in each of his sons, putting them to "work" at the golf course, the backyard garden, mowing lawns for neighbors, home teaching and church visits, baking bagels and washing cars, amongst other tasks.
Throughout his adult life, he demonstrated his faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through multiple acts of charity, committed church service in a variety of meaningful capacities, and sharing his testimony with his children and grandchildren.
As his sons grew, the family built a cabin near Lava Hot Springs. For 25 years, they thoroughly enjoyed all the mountains had to offer. Phil struggled with chronic health challenges throughout his life, but with the endurance and determination he picked up from his childhood, he never let it get him down for long. It also made him extremely cognizant of his family and friends.
Toward the end of his life, Phil's influence extended into the lives of his seven grandchildren, all of whom cherish and adore his lovely spirit. There wasn't a week that went by that "Papi" didn't call to check in with his grandchildren in Utah or Ohio. For the last decade, they have been a guiding force in his life. They will miss their time on the golf course, at the bagel store, impromptu weekend visits in Utah and Sun Valley and summer trips to Ohio with their grandfather. The loss of your sturdy presence in our lives feels enormous. We miss you Papi.
Philip is survived by his three sons, Tyler (Carrie), Jaxson (Abby), and Logan (Mindy) and his seven beloved grandchildren, Oliver, Euan, Tulie, Giles, Sawyer, Aksel and Stella Lamprecht. He is also survived by his brothers, Elmer (Bette Rae), Max (Jane), Lyle (DeAnna), and his sister, Linda (Gary) Larsen. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Emil (Joy), Roy and infant baby boy.
Services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Caldwell Park LDS Ward Building located at 135 S. Seventh Avenue, Pocatello. Viewings will be held on Monday, Aug. 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home located at 2005 S. Fourth Avenue, Pocatello and at the Caldwell Park Building on Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 10-10:50 a.m., prior to the service.
Interment will be at the Norton Cemetery located in McCammon, Idaho.
