B. Opal Wernette Obituary
B. Opal Wernette, 90, passed away in Pocatello, Idaho Thursday, September 29, 2016.
Opal was born October 6, 1925, on the family farm in Groveland, Idaho, to Orla George and Lois Winder Beasley. She was an enthusiastic student and was advanced two grade levels while attending Groveland Elementary School. After graduating from Blackfoot High School, she received her teaching degree from Albion Normal School. Because of World War II teaching shortages, she began her career at the age of seventeen, at View Elementary schools. Also she later taught at Moreland and Ammon Elementary schools.
During the summer of 1945, while she was spending her summer vacation from teaching at her parents' ranch in Bone, Idaho. She met Florian Eugene Wernette, who was looking for summer pasture for his cattle in the area. The couple were later married on February 5, 1947 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Blackfoot, Idaho. Throughout the years, Florian and Opal not only bought his parents' farm but also purchased several adjoining properties.
In her early years, Opal served as P.T.A. President at Firth Elementary and was elected as chairman of the Firth Farm Bureau Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and coin collecting as well as spending time with her family.
She is survived by her sister, June Barron of Orange CA; and her five children: Kenneth (Olivia) Wernette of Firth, Idaho, Marie (Stephen) Fairchild of Pocatello, Idaho, Florence (Joe) Mattie of Pocatello, Idaho, June (David) Douglas of Spokane, Washington and Richard (Debbie) Wernette of Walla Walla, Washington; ten grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Florian Wernette; her parents, one grandson, Kenneth R. Wernette; one brother, Richard Beasley; three sisters-in-law, Ann Wernette, Clara Hobley Lent and Irene Anderson; and three brothers-in-law, Norman Hobley, Floyd Lent and Monte Anderson.  
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 7, 2016, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 584 W. Sexton Street, Blackfoot. Interment will follow at the Grove City Cemetery.
Also, there will be a Catholic Rosary service at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot. The family will continue to meet friends there following the Rosary from 7-9 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
