Bert Sorensen Obituary
Bert Samuel Sorensen, 97, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Brighton House Assisted Living in Riverton, Utah.
Bert was born May 7, 1920 in Gibson, Idaho to Lawrence L. and Effie Ellis Sorensen. He grew up on a farm near American Falls and attended schools there, graduating from American Falls High School in 1940. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps right after high school. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in Europe during World War II. He served for 3 years, 8 months and 20 days.
He married Ruth Knoblich on September 27, 1946 in Pocatello, Idaho. They were later sealed for time and all eternity on January 18, 1991 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Ruth passed away later that year.
Bert and Ruth started their married life in Pocatello then moved to Blackfoot. In 1947, Bert went to work for Idaho Power, where he was a line foreman. He retired in 1982.
He loved singing songs. He loved helping others and always kept busy, smoking meat and spending time with family and friends.
Bert is survived by his son, Douglas (Carol) Sorensen of Blackfoot; daughters Marsha (Dennis) Downs of Sandy, Utah and Ann Russell of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren, Kara (Chris) Grieb, Michael Downs, Jeremy (Chyrese) Downs, Stephanie (Josh) Efaw and Clayton Russell, and 1 great grandchild, Chloe Downs.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth and 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Family will visit with friends and relatives for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Grove City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff at Brighton House and Tender Care Hospice for the loving care they gave to Bert.
