Betty Pauline Pope McCrary Obituary
Betty Pauline Pope McCrary of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away at the age of 93 at The Willows Assisted Living Center in Blackfoot on May 2, 2017.
Betty was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Downing, Missouri to Oscar and Zelma North. The family also lived in Kirksville and Memphis, Missouri before moving to Blackfoot in 1934. She attended junior high and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1941. After high school she worked for Kesler's Market.
She married Floyd Pope Sept. 12, 1944. Floyd was in the service stationed in Sioux City, Iowa where they were married.  Betty returned to Blackfoot and continued working until Floyd returned from the war. Shortly after he returned they started their family. They loved spending time with their children gardening and camping. After the children grew up and moved away, Betty and Floyd moved to Wapello where they grew strawberries, raspberries and a few apple trees.
After Floyd passed away, Betty married LaVor McCrary. They loved going to Arizona in the winter. They were later divorced.
Betty also loved spending time with her grandchildren and traveling with her children. Before moving to The Willows she lived at Bingham Housing where she made many good friends.
Betty is survived by her daughter Peggy S. Bone (Ron) Shelley, her son Dennis G. Pope (Kristy) Blackfoot, and her three grandchildren: Jamie M. Bone, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Eric G. Pope (Ashleigh) Pocatello, and Sarah I. McGinn (Drew) Spokane, Washington; a great grandson Dexter J. Pope and a great granddaughter Ariana I. McGinn.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Floyd G. Pope, a great grandson Jameson G. Pope, her parents Oscar and Zelma North, four sisters: Carrie Landis, Bernice Snapp, Ramona Neill and Marjorie Reader; a brother Kenneth and an infant brother.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 5 at the Groveland Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the excellent care given to Betty by the staff of The Willows Assisted Living, and to Blackfoot Home Health and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blackfoot Home Health and Hospice, 1443 Parkway Drive, Ste. 2, Blackfoot, ID 83221.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com
