Charles Shepherd Obituary
Charles Everett "Bud" Shepherd, 71 of Blackfoot, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 at Meadow View Nursing and Rehab in Nampa, Idaho due to a stroke he suffered in November 2016.
He was a fighter to the end. You will be missed brother but you can fly now and be free.
He was born Aug. 22, 1945 in Boyd County Kentucky. He was the third child born of six children, the youngest of the three boys. He was born at home to John Sherman Shepherd and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Blythe Shepherd.
Charles was nicknamed "Bud" by his dad and so this is what family knew and referred to him as. Hearing someone call him Charles always sounded so foreign to all of us.
Bud started life out in Kentucky until our family moved to Pocatello. There he attended schools and graduated from Pocatello High School in May of 1963. He joined the Navy right after graduation and was honorably discharged returning to Pocatello, Idaho.
Bud was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Graduating from seminary in May of 1963.
He started working at Remo's Restaurant in Pocatello. He would ride his bike into work and back home again riding 20 miles a day round trip.
He also mowed several lawns and saved his money and bought his first vehicle, which he was very proud of and the bike was no longer needed.
Bud was married twice and both marriages ended in divorce. No children from either union.
He worked for Lamb Weston in American Falls and Nonpareil for 27 years in Blackfoot where he retired in 2010. He received many safety awards for work place safety.
He went on many, mini vacations around the southeastern part of Idaho. He took trips into Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado visiting the Grand Canyon and enjoying the beautiful scenery.
Bud would help anyone in need even if it meant he went without. He was a very private person and lived life on his terms. We abided by his wishes during this time.
Bud is preceded in death by an older brother, William Robert "Bob" Shepherd, father, John Sherman Shepherd, mother, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Blythe Shepherd, infant great nephew, Michael Allen, paternal and maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Charles "Bud" is survived by a brother, James Shepherd, sisters, Carol Stith, Brenda Christensen all of Pocatello. Sister, Vicki Evans, brother-in-law, Pat Evans of Blackfoot whom has been so supportive along with other family members.
Nephew and nieces, Robert Shepherd, Terry Shepherd, Butch Shepherd, and a favorite niece, Cathy Miles, James Allen, Troy Allen, Dawnie Snooks, Jamie Westcott and Paul Stith and several great nephews and nieces.
We would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and other staff members that took care of Charles "Bud" in Southeastern Idaho at Bingham Memorial Hospital, EIRMC in Idaho Falls.
In Southwest Idaho at Southwest Rehab Hospital in Boise. Saint Alponsus Medical Center in Nampa, Idaho. The long term care facility, Meadow View Nursing and Rehab and Harrison's Hope Hospice of Nampa.
God bless you all for your kind and compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3 at Hawker Funeral Home.
Family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
