D. Boyd Archibald Obituary
D. Boyd Archibald, 90, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 at Bingham Memorial Hospital. He spent his final days enjoying the company of his family, while celebrating Thanksgiving at Bear Lake, UT.
Boyd was born April 1, 1925 in Clarkston, UT to David Norman Archibald and Archulious Buttars Archibald.
Ever a tireless worker, Boyd spent his boyhood caring for cows, chickens, pigs, horses, turkeys and his beloved pony, Sally, on the family farm. He also cared for the family garden, mended fences and harvested hay. To balance this hard work, he played hard as well, waterskiing and snow skiing well into his 60s.
Boyd married Fauna Nielsen from Hyrum, UT on June 1, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. He graduated from agricultural college in Logan, UT and then received master's degree in agriculture from Utah State University.
Together, Boyd and Fauna had four children, Brent, Roger, Bart and Kristen. The family moved to Blackfoot in 1956, where Boyd worked for the conservation service. Except for a six-year residence in Coeur d'Alene, Boyd remained in Blackfoot for the rest of his life.
A man without guile, Boyd lived a life of service and sacrifice. His greatest loves were his family and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He shared his enthusiasm for the outdoors while serving as a scoutmaster for many years. All three of his sons earned the Eagle Scout Award by the time they were 13, and Boyd received the Silver Beaver Award.
He found great joy traveling with his wife, Fauna. They traversed the United States, from Alaska, to New York, to Florida, to Hawaii, and nearly every state in between. They also visited a total of 15 foreign countries, including Israel, New Zealand, Panama, Germany and Russia, two weeks after the Berlin wall came down (he chipped off a piece for proof). Boyd and Fauna enjoyed their RV and spent 18 winters in Arizona.
Boyd is survived by his sons, Brent and Roger Archibald; his daughter, Kristen Wood; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Fauna; his son, Bart; and his parents, David and Archulious Archibald.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Blackfoot 2nd Ward Relief Society Room. The family will meet friends at a 10:30 viewing prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Humanitarian Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at Humanitarian Services
c/o LDS Philanthropies, 1450 N. University Avenue, Provo, UT 84604 or online at www.ldsphilanthropies.org.
