Darold A. Dougal Jr. Obituary
Darold A. Dougal Jr., 86, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at his home after a brief battle with cancer. Darold was born March 10, 1931 in Boise to Darold Albert Dougal Sr. and Charlotte Lula Dittmar Dougal.
He attended school in Boise until the age of 17 when he joined the US Marine Corps and fought in the Korean War and later fought in the battle of the Chosin Reservoir. After Darold returned from Korea, he enrolled in Boise Junior College and was trained as a machinist.
After graduation, he went to work for Boeing aircraft in Seattle, but the wet weather never agreed with Darold so he moved back to Idaho where he worked with his father for a short time.
While living in Boise, he met his beloved wife Deanna Mae Smith on a blind date.
After a short courtship, they were married on Sept. 15, 1956 in Boise. They were sealed together for eternity in 1962 in the Bern Switzerland Temple while living in Germany and they enjoyed 45 years together until Deanna passed away in 2001.
After they were married, Darold joined the Air Force as a machinist and served for 16 years, before retiring as a staff sergent in 1973.
While in the Air Force they traveled to many places and welcomed many children into their family. They lived in California, Texas, Germany, Japan, New Mexico, Arizona and finally retired in Mountain Home.
After Darold retired from the military, he worked many jobs until 1981 when he was hired as a correctional officer for the Idaho prison system which he worked for until he retired in 1995. After he retired he and Deanna volunteered their time as temple workers for the Boise temple for many years. After Deanna passed away, he decided to move closer to his son in Blackfoot, where he made his home for the past 12 years.
In Darold's spare time, he loved to do indexing, anything to do with technology, visiting his children and grandchildren and talking with his neighbors.
Darold is survived by four daughters: Dianna Ray of Canby Oregon, Delinda (Paul) Hicks of Farmersville, Texas; Darlea (Bill) Anderson of Boise; and Delisa Hawley of Mountain Home; and three sons, Douglas (Kay) Dougal of Mountain Home; David Dougal of Blackfoot; and Daniel (Kelly) Dougal of Nanticoke, Penn.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deanna, and by his parents, Darold Sr. and Charlotte Dougal.
