Dennis Roy Hansen Obituary
Dennis Roy Hansen, age 73, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015, due to a rare form of cancer.

Dennis was born in Malad, Idaho, the first of 7 kids born to Roy W. and Ruby (Hurd) Hansen. In 1945, when Dennis was 4, his dad Roy bought a farm in the Kimball area where Roy and Ruby raised their family. Dennis attended schools in Firth and graduated from Firth High School.

Dennis entered the U.S. Navy, August 3, 1961. Sadly, on December 20, 1963 Ruby died in an automobile accident and Roy was severely injured, taking several months to recover. At this time Dennis came home to the family farm to help take care of his younger siblings and the farm, however remaining in the Navy Reserves until August 2, 1967.

On August 27, 1966 Dennis obtained 4 step-siblings when his father married Margaret Johnson Heaps. After his father married Dennis moved to Battle Mountain, Nevada to work in the mines, where he met the love of his life, Cathy Cheryl McElyea. Dennis and Cathy married on June 7, 1968 in Winnemucca, Nevada. They were raising Dennis' young son from a previous marriage and to their marriage were born 1 daughter and 4 sons.

After the birth of their first 3 children Dennis and Cathy moved their young family to Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Dennis was working a a welder for the BoilerMakers at Bridger Power when he was electrocuted, losing his right arm and leg. After his accident, Dennis decided he wanted to come home so he and Cathy moved to Blackfoot. They bought their home by Kimball Hill soon after, where they reside to this day.

Dennis was a very talented person. He learned to sew in the Navy, repairing uniforms and sewing patches on uniforms for fellow personnel. He sewed many things from wedding dresses to bikinis. He greatly enjoyed growing a huge garden for many years, giving much away to friends, neighbors and the needy. He also enjoyed growing herbs and flowers. Dennis and Cathy baked and decorated many, many cakes down through the years, from beautiful elaborate wedding and anniversary cakes to fun and whimsical birthday cakes for their kids to great grandkids. He also loved woodworking and made beautiful picture frames, heart boxes, puzzles and etc. It seemed there was nothing he couldn't do, once he set his mind to it. He was a funny, great story teller.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of almost 47 years, Cathy, of Firth, Idaho; 1 daughter, Kimmery (Doug) Seymore, of Rexburg, Idaho; 5 sons, Dennis T. (Rhonna) Hansen, of Blackfoot, Idaho, Roy (Carrie) Hansen, of Osgood, Idaho, Jacob Hansen, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Gary (Abby) Hansen, of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Preston (Krissy) Hansen, of Burley, Idaho; his much loved daughter-in-law, Lynette Moore, who helped care for him until his death; 27 grandkids, 7 great grandkids, 1 brother, 4 sisters, 4 step-sisters and 1 sister-in-law, Zenneta Richardson.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ruby Hansen, sister Janice and in August of 2003, his grandson Spencer Michael Hansen.

Rest in peace our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. You are greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
