Dorothy Lyon Obituary
Dorothy Lyon, 92 of Firth, passed away Saturday January 7, 2017 at her home surrounded by family.
Dorothy Lyon was born August 2, 1924 in Firth, Idaho to Frank and Clarice Just Phillips. She was the youngest of the four Phillips children. Her father passed away when she was two, and she was joined later by three siblings from her mother's marriage to Martin Mattson.
She grew up in Presto and graduated from Firth High School in 1943. She moved to San Diego to live with her Uncle Bill Just and worked at Bank of America for about a year. She then returned to Blackfoot, and worked at First Security Bank until her marriage.
On September 11, 1947 she married Everett Lyon at Jason Lee Methodist Church in Blackfoot. They resided in Blackfoot for a year then moved to the Double D Ranch near Gilmore where Everett was the ranch foreman for nearly ten years. In 1959, they moved to their home in Presto Valley on the banks of the Blackfoot River, where she has resided since. Everett passed away in 1994 and she has missed him ever since.
Dorothy worked at Basic American Foods in Blackfoot for 30 years as a lead lady. Her work led to many special friendships.  She retired in 1989.
She enjoyed history, her family, fishing trips on the coast of Oregon, and especially horses. She always looked forward to visits from friends and family, particularly her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also looked forward to the Just Reunion every year.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Jim Mattson; children, Betty (Dan) Fawcett, Steve (Sharen) Lyon, and Agnes (Alan) Gentillon; 7 grandchildren, Emma (Rusty) Morgan, Jeanie (Brandon) Neff, Debbie (Chris) Steffler, Hugh Lyon, Jo Fawcett-Elison, Patrick (Shandell) Lyon, and Clarice Gentillon; and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Steve Phillips, Mark Phillips, Carl Mattson, sisters Ina Fuller and JoAnne Bettencourt.
To celebrate Dorothy's life, her family will meet with friends and relatives at 12 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Blackfoot Elks Lodge, 123 N. Ash Street, Blackfoot. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Presto Preservation Association, 279 N 400 E, Blackfoot, ID 83221.
