Dyle Gower Clark Obituary
Dyle Gower Clark, 97, of Blackfoot, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 at his home.
Dyle was born October 18, 1919 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Parley Gower Clark and Lovina Parker Clark. He was the fourth of nine children.
He attended and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1937. Following graduation, Dyle went to Salt Lake City to Barber College. From July 12, 1944 to October 28, 1946, Dyle served his country in the Army. He served in the Philippines in the 41st Infantry Division and worked as a barber.
On August 23, 1940, he married Elva Cheney in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They were the parents of three children. Elva preceded him in death on June 11, 2002.
Dyle worked as a barber for 60 years. He barbered in Soda Springs, Twin Falls, and Blackfoot. As a second job, he worked the graveyard shift at the Sugar Factory. He worked for a time for the Union Pacific Railroad as a fireman. After his military service in the South Pacific during World War II, he resumed his barbering practice in Blackfoot which he continued throughout his life. He was the oldest barber in town.
Dyle was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions of responsibility in the church such as, Sunday School Superintendent, Mutual President, Ward Financial Clerk, and High Priest and Elder's group leaders assistant. He served as the High Priest Secretary for 18 years. Dyle was an avid Scouter. He was a Scout and Cub master for all Troop Committees. He received his District Award of Merit, and the Silver Beaver Award for 40 years in Scouting. He loved his weekly temple service and was a faithful home teacher. For 50 years he worked in the 5th Ward Food Booth at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
In his free time he enjoyed teaching the guitar and banjo, and fishing with his wife. He was also a photographer for weddings for over 20 years.
Dyle is survived by his daughter, Diane (Bernard Parley) Van Wagenen of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Robert G. (Shinda) Clark of Blackfoot, ID; and brother Ronald Lynn (LaRee Thompson) Clark of Bountiful, UT.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Cheney; son, Gary Dyle Clark; parents, Parley and Lovina; brothers, James Parley (Verda Skinner) Clark, Allan Everett (Anna Solovief) Clark and Mevlin Clark, Newel (Freeda Birchfield) Clark, Glen Alma (Norma Jean Warnick) Clark.; and sisters, Clara (Paul Evans) Neeley and Gladys Lovina (Oliver Rollin) Hunter.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Blackfoot 14th Ward, 900 Riverton Rd, with Bishop Wes Potter officiating.
Family will meet with friends from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Blackfoot 14th Ward. Interment will follow in the Grove City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
