Evelynn Powers Obituary
Evelynn Powers died peacefully at her home in Salkum, Washington on her 88th birthday, Dec. 21, 2017 at 7:10 p.m. with loved ones on both sides of the veil.
Born Evelyn Wheeler on Dec. 21, 1929 in Moreland, Idaho to Archie and Bessie Ellis Wheeler, she was the second youngest daughter of 10 children. She grew up in Moreland where she possessed a great gift of music, playing the piano, harmonica and accordion along with her beautiful singing voice. Her family moved to Mackay, Idaho in 1948 where she met the love of her life, Charles M. Powers. They were married on March 28, 1949.
To this union was born three boys and one girl, John Lynn, Marie Evelyn, Charles Calvin and Eldon Kent. She raised her children in Mackay and shared some wonderful years with her mother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Powers, on the dairy/seed farm that Charlie and his brother operated.
There Grandma Mary passed along her love of baking and sewing with Evelynn that carried on throughout the years and brought much joy to her children, grandchildren and even her great grandchildren.
Evelynn and her family later moved to Blackfoot, Idaho where Charlie worked as a State Potato Inspector and Evelynn was a book keeper at The Merc.
Her grandchildren remember visiting her there and always finding a piece of butterscotch candy waiting for them in her upper desk drawer.
Evelynn was an avid equestrian and treasured taking her horses to the outdoors. Many hours were vested "up in the hills" enjoying the solitude of nature. She was a member of the Shelly Riding Russets and rode in several Eastern Idaho State Fair Parades as part of their flag brigade.
Evelynn was a talented artist, she had countless drawings, leatherworks and metal art pieces that she created over the years.
Evelynn also enjoyed bowling and played for leagues in Blackfoot, Idaho as well as Salkum, Washington. This skill was passed along to her children as bowling outings were a fond memory for all of her family.
Evelynn had a beautiful flower, vegetable and rock garden. She loved watching things grow; she especially loved her family and shared her home and gardening skills with them. Evelynn looked forward to taking them camping and horseback riding and devoted numerous sunny afternoons on her porch swing solving life's trivial problems. Life was rich with Evelynn and she had a great love for all that shared it with her.
Evelynn moved to Salkum, Washington in 2009 after losing her husband in 2006. Here she was able to be close to her daughter, Marie, and spent her later years treasure hunting, collecting and being "girly" with her only daughter.
She is survived by her brother Bruce (Mary) Wheeler of Idaho Falls; her daughter, Marie (Dean) Marshall of Salkum, Wash., her son, Calvin (Cheryle) Powers of Blackfoot; her grandchildren, Shawnee (Darren) Kyle of Kimberly, Idaho, Colby Powers of Cody, Wyo., Stetson (Lindsey) Powers of Blackfoot, Davin (Megan) Powers of Twin Falls, Kent Jace (Kylie) Powers of Oceanside, Calif. and her adopted granddaughter Maggie (Josh) Wagoner of Blackfoot.
Evelynn had six great-grandsons, Braeden Stosich, Andrew Stosich, Shaun Stosich, Nathanial Charles Stosich, Ezra Powers, Charles Powers and five great- granddaughters, Ryan Powers, Sydlee Powers, Sadie Wagoner, Jacie Wagoner and Josie Wagoner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, her oldest son John Lynn, youngest son Eldon Kent, and her siblings Jess Wheeler, Vaughn Wheeler, Glenn Wheeler, Farris Wheeler, Clara Smith, Lillie Lemmon, Bernice Hone and Maxine Wells.
Interment will be at the Mount McCaleb Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held "up in the hills" (Wolverine Canyon) during springtime to honor Evelynn's legacy.
The date and time will be announced closer to the celebration.
