Frances Yamada Obituary
Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Frances Yamada passed away quietly in her sleep on June 6, 2016 in Arizona of causes incident to age. She was born in May of 1931 in Kauai, Hawaii to William J. Ogawa and Florence Yokoyama and attended elementary school in Eleele, Kauai. She later transferred to Saint Francis Academy in Honolulu, Oahu. Education was very important to Frances and she continued her studies in elementary education at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho earning a Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Elementary Education. She was passionate about the care and education of children. As a dedicated teacher for the Snake River School District. Frances spent many hours in preparing and teaching academics in a variety of ways to engage her students in learning. She is remembered by many of her students and parents as the teacher who fostered a love for children and their success. Frances was rewarded several professional awards for her dedication and work with children. The most fulfilling reward for Frances was seeing the achievements of her students as they progressed throughout their life.
While studying at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho, Frances met Jiro Yamada and they were married in Eleele, Kauai on August 21, 1953. During their newly married life in Pocatello, Idaho, they enjoyed bowling and socializing with their friends. Later they established their farm and family home in Moreland, Idaho where they were blessed with two children, Steven and Laurie whom they loved and cherished. Frances and Jiro were married for more than 50 years. Frances dearly loved her family. She was a great example of patience, kindness, and optimism and a caring friend to many.
Frances loved to create beautiful things, sewing clothes for her grandchildren and crocheting masterpieces of afghans. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as the Jr. Sunday School President for many years. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Frances Yamada was preceded in death by her husband, Jiro Yamada, whom she loved very much and her parents William and Florance, and sister-in-law Ikue. Frances is survived by her children Steven (Teri) Yamada and Laurie (Al); four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren; brothers Earl Ogawa, Glen (Jean) Ogawa, and one sister, Hazel (Paul) Lerman. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 14, 2016 at 2 p.m. in Cornelison Funeral Chapel, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello. Condolences at www.cornelisonfh.com
