Fred D. Arbuckle Obituary
Fred D. Arbuckle, 92, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2016 at the Idaho State Veteran's Home in Pocatello.
He was born June 3, 1924 in Garland, Utah to Royal Arbuckle and Irene Coffin. He attended Blackfoot schools and graduated from Blackfoot High School.
After high school, Fred enlisted in the US Army Air Corps from 1942-46, he served as a flight engineer on B-26 aircraft.
In 1947, Fred married June Huffaker. They had two children, JoAnn and John. They were later divorced. He married Helen M. Petty Shaw, adding four children to their home, Dennis, Suzie, Laddie and Violet.
Next, he learned the auto body trade and worked for 50 years in numerous shops in Blackfoot. He always had a part-time job as an All State Insurance agent and was an A Watkins distributer. In his free time, he enjoyed square dancing, bowling, fishing, camping and traveling.
After retirement, he still worked at home, raising cattle and goats. He continued at home as an auto body repair man and did custom hay raking. Total retirement came when Helen and Fred took their camper and dogs to spend time in Quart Site, Ariz. They enjoyed this special time together and made many friends.
Fred was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Fred is survived by his wife, Helen M. Arbuckle; sons, John Joyce Arbuckle of Pocatello, Denny Shaw of Idaho Falls and Laddie (Polly) Shaw of Idaho Falls; daughter, Suzie (Monte) Lance of Squm, Wash.; son-in-law, Mike Jensen; grandsons, Mark (Lori) England and Scott England; two great grandchildren, Kristi England, Alex England; and nephew, Lee (Tina) Fletcher.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Scott Arbuckle; daughters, JoAnn and Violet.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Grove City Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion.
