Gene Marvin Bowman Obituary
Gene Marvin Bowman Jr., 76, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born March 8, 1941in Pocatello, Idaho the son of Gene M. Bowman, Sr. and Margret Ann Smith Bowman.
He attended schools in Blackfoot and graduated from Blackfoot High School. He attended 1 year at ISU.
He served in the Army from 1963-65 when he was honorably discharged.
On May 9, 1969, he married Catharine Miller at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Blackfoot, Idaho.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church and served as an altar boy in his youth. He has been a member of the Elk's Lodge since the age of 21. He served as past Exalted Ruler and was honored as elk of the year. He was a member of the P.O.W. and American Legion.
At the age of 14 he went to work for the family business, Blackfoot Motor. He worked his life as the parts and service manager. He worked in Island Park in his early years at a filling station.
He enjoyed woodworking, 4-wheeling, golf, camping, fishing and bird hunting. He also enjoyed bowling on a league. He especially enjoyed attending all of his grandkids athletic games. They spent their weekends for the past 20 years in their trailer at Heise.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy of Blackfoot; daughters, Susan (Jim) Sippola of Soda Springs, ID, Lorraine (John) Giannini of Idaho Falls, ID, Diane (Perry) Chapman of Blackfoot, ID and Kollette Bowman of Blackfoot, ID; brother, Larry (Debbie) Bowman of Meridian, ID and Bobbette (Merlin) Gifford of Idaho Falls, ID; eleven grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roy Bowman.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2017 at The Elk's Lodge. The family will meet with friends on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., and for one hour prior to the service at the Elk's Lodge.
