Gene Matsuura Obituary
Gene S. Matsuura, 90, of Blackfoot, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 at his home.
Gene was born March 27, 1927 to Seiichiro Matsuura and Tsuruyo Kanamoto Matsuura in Rexburg, Idaho, the seventh child of nine.
Gene attended a Japanese school during his grade school time where he learned to write Japanese. He graduated from Madison High School.
Prior to his mother's passing, Gene took care of her by making sure that she was taken to her appointments, took care of the yard work and helped her around the house with anything she needed.
On Aug. 16, 1984 Gene married Carol Bell in Elko, Nev. She preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 2006. After Carol's passing, his brother Glenn stepped in to take care of him and to be there for him.
Gene and Carol enjoyed heading south in their motorhome to Arizona and Nevada to spend the winter.
He worked as a farmer. He loved working on the family farm with his four brothers. On the farm, he especially enjoyed trucking and operating the Michigan Loader.
Gene was very generous and kind to all. In his free time, he loved caring for his lawn and looking after his dogs.
Gene is survived by his brothers, Glenn (Marcia) Matsuura of Blackfoot, and Brent (Dieola) Matsuura of Shelley.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Matsuura,; parents, Seiichiro and Tsuruyo Matsuura; brothers, Jack and Tom; and sisters, Marye Iga, Kaguwa "Lyle" Matsuura, Marie Fujino, and Donna Yamagata.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 at Hawker Funeral Home. Family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
