Janet Rockwood Goodwin Obituary
Janet Rockwood Goodwin of Blackfoot died peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Janet was born April 7, 1952 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Ray and Fern Rockwood. She grew up in Blackfoot and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1970. She attended Ricks College for two years and then went on to finish her degree at BYU. She played basketball, volleyball and softball for both colleges.
In March of 1975, Janet married Raymon Goodwin and moved to Riverside to raise their family. She signed her first teaching contract the same year with Snake River High School where she taught and coached until she retired in 2013. Teaching and coaching the youth of the community was one her greatest joys. She spent countless hours doing all she could to make sure her students and players had the help and support they needed to succeed.
Janet was a very faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was always willing to help in any way she could and held various callings throughout her life. She always loved playing the piano in primary, especially when her grandchildren were there. She also loved to sing in the choir and serve in the Relief Society.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Fern Rockwood; her sisters, Paula Rankin and Marla Rockwood; and infant brother, Bradley Rockwood.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 41 years, Raymon; her children, Todd (Juliette) of Blackfoot, Shannon (Jared) Mitchell of Piedmont, California, Travis (Rachel) of Blackfoot; and step-son, Darcy (Penny) of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also survived by her sister, Melanie (Skip) Gardner, of Blackfoot; and brother, Lloyd (Janet) Rockwood, also of Blackfoot. Janet was blessed over the last 16 years of her life with ten grandchildren, whom she loved very dearly.
Funeral services and celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday March 7, 2016 at the Blackfoot Northwest Stake Center, 100 N. 740 W.  A viewing will be held the evening of Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., from 6-8 p.m., and again one hour prior to services at the Stake Center.
In honor of Janet the family will be starting the Coach Goodwin Memorial Scholarship. They ask that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to this fund at any local Bank of Commerce.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the wonderful staff of Access Home Health and Hospice, the fantastic doctors and nurses of the Teton Cancer Institute, and the many surgeons and oncologists at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
