Janice Lorraine (Lees) Packer Obituary
Janice Lorraine Lees Packer, 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 16, 2018, at her family home in the loving care of her husband, children and sister Leona Santivanes.
She was born January 9, 1937, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Emerson Harry and Zonda Mary Lees. She attended school in Idaho Falls. She was on the gymnastic team in her 7th and 8th grade years. She also had a beautiful voice and won several singing competitions.
On August 12, 1954, she married Dio Gene Packer in the Idaho Falls, Idaho LDS Temple and was married over 62 years. They lived in Moreland for a couple of years; then they made their home in Idaho Falls for the remaining 60 years.
Janice and Gene's greatest joy was spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participating with them in their various activities.
Janice was always neat and tidy in her personal attire. She had a natural talent in selecting and accessorizing clothing for herself and Gene.
Her home was always immaculate and decorated in pleasing décor. She loved to decorate. She had many hobbies including sewing, quilting, home decorating, fashion, square dancing, hiking and camping. Her greatest passion was shopping. Janice never met a sale she didn't like. Her exploits for finding a great deal were legend.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many various positions in the Primary and Relief Society including Primary President, Relief Society Counselor and Home-making leader. Janice served with Gene as missionaries at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple Visitors Center and served as Temple Officiators in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Survivors include her husband, Dio Gene Packer of Idaho Falls; their children, Lyle (Marla) Packer of Rigby, Carry (Todd) Cook of Syracuse, Utah, Monte (Kelly) Packer of Idaho Falls, Lane (Gail) Packer of Rigby and Travis (Cheryl) Packer of Ucon; siblings are Ronald (Nona) Lees of Ririe, Leona Santivanes of Idaho Falls, Darwin (Linda) Lees of Idaho Falls and Nyle (Billie) Lees of Rigby; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy M. Lees and Alice C. Lees; two brothers, Marvin and Lloyd Emerson Lees and both parents.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at the Idaho Falls LDS 19th Ward Church, 3370 North 5th West, with Bishop Duane Allen officiating. The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Wednesday 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Moreland Cemetery.
