Joan Poole, 91, of Blackfoot, passed away, Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Gem Village.
Joan was born on April 26, 1926 in St. Anthony, Idaho to Stephen Hyrum Hanson and Lula Lamont Hanson.
Joan spent a short time in St. Anthony but was a life long resident of Blackfoot. She attended and graduated from Blackfoot High School.
On Oct. 7, 1949 Joan married Burke Kimber Poole in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 2016.
Joan worked as a homemaker, caring for her family.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various callings in her ward and stake. She also worked for many years in the Idaho Falls Temple. She had been active most of her life in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP)
In her later years, she enjoyed listening to books on tape, and spending time with her family. She was a great seamstress and loved to crochet afghans and do crewel embroidery and did so until her sight wouldn't permit. She also loved to write poetry.
Joan is survived by her sons, Randy (Trudi) Poole, Kim (Kathryn) Poole, and Kerry Poole all of Blackfoot; daughters, Jodie (Arlin) Stimpson, Susan (Doyle) Hawker both of Rockford, and Kristi (Gary) Richey of Shelley; brother, Stephen "Bud" Hanson  of Boise; sister-in-law, Leah Doering of Blackfoot; 26 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burke Poole; parents, Stephen and Lula Hanson; and son, Steven Louis Poole.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 26 at Hawker Funeral Home with Bishop Arlin Stimpson conducting. Family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
