John Lee Orchard Obituary
John Lee Orchard, 88, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at his home from cancer
Lee was born in Pocatello, Idaho on January 26, 1927, the first child of four children born to William John Orchard and Norma Selena Sundstrom Orchard.
He lived in Fort Hall, Idaho and attended grade school there and Blackfoot High School.
On November 5, 1948, he married Verda Yancey in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Blackfoot for a short time and then moved to Fort Hall until 1965, when they returned to Blackfoot.
Lee worked at the U.S. Naval Ordinance Plant in Pocatello, Idaho, Idaho Potato Starch Plant and the U.S. Post Office in Blackfoot. On February 11, 1957 he went to work at the Idaho National Laboratory as a security guard and retired in October 2006.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several church callings
He enjoyed and loved his family very much and enjoyed traveling to see them. He had a liking for ships and airplanes, and in his earlier years, had a private pilot's license.
He is survived by his wife, Verda of Blackfoot; daughters, Susan O. Miles of Blackfoot, ID, Bonnie (Joe) Jones of Rockland, ID, and Gayle (Claude) Williams of Moreland, ID; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and two step grandchildren, their wives, and three step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Larry Lee Orchard, two brothers, Harvey Ray (and Florence) Orchard, and Robert Dale (and Mary) Orchard, and a sister, Donna Ruth (and LaVoy) Phillips and one grand daughter, Jennifer Sue Miles.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho.
The family will meet with friends from 12:45 - 1:45pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Groveland Cemetery.
