Joyce Madsen Murdock Obituary
Joyce Madsen Murdock, 84, loving wife and mother passed peacefully on March 25, 2016 in Blackfoot, Idaho. Her last days were spent surrounded by her devoted and loving family.
Joyce was born July 12, 1931 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Howard H. Madsen and Clara Agnes Cunningham. After the first grade she moved with her family to Blackfoot and graduated from Blackfoot High School. She attended BYU Provo and then then transferred to Utah State Agricultural College.
Joyce met the love of her life, Dale C. Murdock, and on March 21, 1952 they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple. They settled in Thomas, Idaho where they farmed, raised cattle and created a beautiful home and yard. Joyce also worked for five years at the Blackfoot Medical Clinic. Together they had four children: Christine (Gordon) Woods, Larry (Celesta) Murdock, all of Thomas, Kelly (Jill) Murdock, Salt Lake City, UT, and Sheri (Rich) Cox, North Ogden, UT.
Joyce loved the beauty of flowers and filled her yard with beautiful flowers gardens and trees. She also enjoyed going camping, fishing, boating, waterskiing, snow skiing, golfing and crocheting. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She served at the Idaho Falls Temple for 25 years, a mission in the Nauvoo, Illinois Temple and also at the Bishops Storehouse in Blackfoot.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Dale; a sister, Noreen Yates of Anchorage, Alaska; four children; 15 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Nord Madsen.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016, at the Blackfoot West Stake Center. The family will meet with friends two nights earlier on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. The family will also meet with friends on Friday at the church for an hour prior to services.
