Juanita Marie (Gini) Popejoy Obituary
Juanita Marie (Gini) Popejoy, 80, of Blackfoot, ID, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
Juanita was the daughter of Emma (Piva) and Mike Gini. She was born on October 29, 1936 in Challis, ID, where she and her five siblings grew up as a ranching family in a valley that Juanita always loved and often visited. She spoke fondly of her childhood there, her time going to school with her little brother, Henry, and listening to Italian opera music with her grandmother. She graduated from Challis High School where she was a cheerleader and where she made many life-long friends with whom she kept in touch throughout her life.
Juanita married her husband, Edward LeRoy "Trapper" Popejoy, on June 5, 1954. Trapper was a miner, so their early married life was filled with traveling to follow work from the mines in central Idaho to southern Utah. They welcomed four children along the way-Vickie, Michael, Gini, and Rick. The family settled in Blackfoot where Juanita went to work at Basic American Foods-a career she would hold for nearly 30 years before retiring.
Juanita was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a kind and caring grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She loved campfires, playing in her garden, visits with friends and family, and listening to Elvis and Frank Sinatra. Her strength was quiet but fierce. She forgave easily, bore trials with grace, and offered unconditional love and an open mind to everyone she knew. Her children and grandchildren adored her and had no better role model than they found in her. Her life's purpose and the legacy she leaves behind is evident in the love her family has for her and each other. Her brown eyes, funny grin, and sweet voice will be missed dearly by all who know her.
Juanita is survived by her four children, Vickie Burke of Grand Junction, CO, Michael (Cindy) Popejoy, Gini (Jeff) Petersen, and Rick (Juli) Popejoy, all of Blackfoot. She leaves behind twelve grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emma and Mike Gini; her husband, Edward LeRoy Popejoy; and her brothers, Jack and Henry Gini.
A celebration of her life will take place later this spring.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
