Karmn Wallace Sjostrom Obituary
Karmn Wallace Sjostrom, 78, of Blackfoot, passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 at his home.
Karmn was born Oct. 14, 1939 in Blackfoot to Wallace Elmer Sjostrom and Ruthory Jeppson.
He attended school in Blackfoot and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1957. Following high school, Karmn served his country in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Washington State, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Texas and Florida. He was also stationed in Thule, Greenland, Tipol, Libya, Kunsan, Korea, Danang, Vietnam and Korat, Thailand. Karmn retired from the Air Force in 1979.
Karmn began his college career at Spokane Community College in Spokane, Washington.
He also attended college at Tarrant County Jr. College in Fort Worth. After retiring from the Air Force Karmn graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work.
On Sept. 16, 1966 Karmn married Malva Elnor Bourne. Together they had two sons, Michael and Kirt. Malva preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 2002. On Dec. 23, 2002 he married Elaine Christian.
Karmn worked as a social worker for 18 years. He worked for The Department of Health and Welfare for nine years and then in the private sector in Pocatello and Blackfoot for another nine years.
Karmn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He did a lot of missionary and temple work. He and Elaine served a mission on the Navajo Reservation in the Phoenix, Arizona Mission.
In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Karmn really enjoyed traveling, especially having visited 49 states and 17 countries while in the Air Force.
Karmn is survived by his wife, Elaine of Blackfoot; sons, Michael (Shelly) Sjostrom of Fort Mitchell, AL, Kirt (Dixie) Sjostrom of Blackfoot; step-children, Alethea (Curt) Galke of Mission, Texas, Corallyn (Keith) Berger of Cut n' Shoot, Texas, Melinda (Jon) Andrus of Ucon, Idaho, Sasha (Brent) Bulla of West Point, Virginia, Wendell (Jennifer) Barnes of Saratoga Springs, Utah, Cicily (Nathan) Cox of Spanish Fork, Utah and 27 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Malva Sjostrom.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Blackfoot 6th Ward, 1289 Mt. Putnam Drive.
Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church. Graveside military honors will follow the service at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
