Katherine "Irene" Blackburn Obituary
Katherine "Irene" Blackburn, 75, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away September 17, 2016 peacefully at her home. She fought a courageous battle for the past year against pancreatic cancer.
Irene was born October 15, 1940 at Soda Springs, Idaho the daughter of Walter S. Gay and Blanche (Davis) Gay. During her youth her family lived in several areas in Southeast Idaho eventually settling in the Snake River area. Irene graduated from Snake River High School in 1958. She went on to study business at ISU.
On August13, 1965, she married her forever sweetheart Melvin Blackburn at Elko, Nevada. They started their life together living in Pocatello, Idaho. In 1974 they purchased a small farm near Blackfoot and raised their family. They made their home in the Riverside area up to the time of her passing. In 1983 they purchased a second home in Spencer, Idaho where she loved to spend time with her family and friends – and everyone was always welcome.
During her career Irene worked mostly as a bookkeeper or administrative assistant. She spent time working for Idaho Power, Super Save Drug, Snake River School District, and finished her career working for Richardson Oil Company. She took pride in her work and always made many friends on the job.
Once retired Irene enjoyed spending her winters in Quartzsite, Arizona, her home in Spencer, and property in Humphrey, Idaho. Irene loved sharing her life with her family and friends most of all. She was instrumental in the annual Spencer Picnic and Spencer 4th of July Parade and was always coming up with ideas to make the events better the following year.
Most of all, she enjoyed her family and friends. She also enjoyed crafting, finding great deals at yard sales & thrift stores, camping, fishing and traveling. Irene will be remembered for her open heart, willingness to listen and giving sound loving advice to those she cared about most.
Irene is survived by her husband, Melvin, of Blackfoot;  daughter, Pam Blackburn-Haggstrom (Jon) of Visalia, California; sons, Dyrk Blackburn, Kirk Blackburn (Kris) and Robert Blackburn (Jodee) all of Blackfoot; grandchildren Elijah Joslyn, Ashley, Sam and Julia Blackburn, Rebecca Rodriguez, Jennifer Kreamier, Melissa Carlson, Brandi Huffman, Shilo Truman, plus many great grandchildren and brother, Walter "Tobe" Gay.
