Kenton LaVell Covington Obituary
Kenton LaVell Covington, 80, of Mesa, Arizona and formerly of Blackfoot, passed away Sept. 2, 2017 at Mayfair Assisted Living Home in Mesa, Arizona.
He was born April 9, 1937 in Thomas, Idaho to Floyd Kenton and and Armeda Caldwell Covington.
LaVell attended school in the Snake River school district, graduating from Snake River High School in 1955. Following graduation, he attended Rick's College, Brigham Young University, and graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
On Jan. 17, 1958 LaVell married Virgie Lee in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Other than during his college years, LaVell was a lifetime resident of the Blackfoot area.
Twenty years ago, upon retirement, he and Virgie would travel to their home in Phoenix for the winters.
LaVell worked for M.T. Deaton as an accountant and for the State of Idaho as a tax accountant. He also worked for different contractors at the INEL and was a financial manager there for 28 years.
LaVell was faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was a past member of the Elk's Lodge. He coached his three sons in many Little League teams. In his free time, LaVell enjoyed all sports and loved to golf with his wife. They loved to travel, especially to Hawaii.
LaVell is survived by his wife, Virgie of Blackfoot; his sons, Kenton Bret Covington of Mesa, Ariz., Bart Lee Covington of Pocatello, and Stan LaVell (Jill) Covington of Mesa; his daughter, Daren Sue Nielsen of Mesa; brother, Steve (Charlotte) Covington of Boise; sister, Dixie (John) Dixson of Blackfoot; 11 grand children and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenton and Armeda Covington and son-in-law, Bruce Nielsen.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Blackfoot 9th Ward, 1289 Mt. Putnam Dr. Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. Friday Sept. 15 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Riverside Thomas Cemetery.
