Larry Leatham Jr. Obituary
Larry (Lawrence) Leatham Jr., 86, passed away after a brief illness on January 31st, 2018 while wintering in Mesa, Arizona.
He was born on October 22nd, 1931 in Rexburg Idaho, the first son of Lawrence Leatham Sr. and Annis Chantrill Leatham, and lived most of his life in the southeast Idaho area. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Beth Leatham Merrill, his brother Lynn, and his first wife Dot Norman Leatham. He is survived by his beloved wife Sara, his sister LaRee Leatham Williams, his brother Arden "Chuck" (wife Alice), his daughter Lori Leatham Griph (husband Gerald,) and his sons Donald (wife Lynette) and William (Barry), as well as his six grandchildren and one great grandson.
Larry graduated from high school in 1948 while temporarily working in Townsend, Montana. In 1952-1953 he served in the U.S. Army in Korea. After returning home he met Dot and they were married on July 2nd, 1954.
Larry and Dot started a family and chose to live and work in the Blackfoot area. Larry worked in the local agricultural implement business for many years, taking a short stint teaching diesel engine maintenance at Idaho State University. He was well-skilled in fixing farm equipment and his abilities were in high demand.
Larry became active in the LDS Church in the 1960's and was sealed to Dot and his children in 1966. This began a life-time of service and leadership in the church, including serving as the Riverside 2nd Ward's bishop. After his retirement in 1993, Larry and Dot began their life as missionaries, serving six missions in West Indies, Zimbabwe (twice), Philippines, Kentucky, and Nigeria.
After Dot died in 2007, Larry was sad and lonely until he met Sara. She helped Larry overcome his grief and he fell deeply in love with her. They were married on December 29th, 2009 and lived happily together for eight years until Larry's death.
Funeral services will be arranged by Hawker Funeral Home and held at 11 a.m. on Saturday February 10th at the LDS church located at 1289 Mt. Putman Dr., Blackfoot, Idaho. The family will meet with friends on Friday evening from 7-8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, and again Saturday morning from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
