LaVerne Hawker Obituary
LaVerne Hawker, 91, of Pocatello, Idaho passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Veteran's Home in Pocatello, Idaho from causes incident to age.
She was born Nov. 7, 1925 in McCammon, Idaho the daughter of Arthur Eugene Higgins and Thelda Nampa Romriell.
She graduated from Thomas High School. She was a two-time all-state guard in basketball. She was the lead trumpet player in the school band.
On Jan. 9, 1946, she married Samuel Goodwin Hawker in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple and has lived her entire life in Pocatello since their marriage. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1998.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in various callings, but especially enjoyed Primary.
She was a member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and was active in Business Women of America.
She worked for many years as the Business Manager at Bannock Hospital and was the first medicare instructor in the state of Idaho.
LaVerne enjoyed ceramics, reading, fishing, hunting, singing in the ward choir and attending the temple.
She is survived by her children, Craig (Renae) Hawker of Oakley, Idaho, Kim (Retta) Hawker of Brigham City, Utah, Connie Hawker of Pocatello, Kayleen (Dave) Rodemack of Clearfield, Utah; brother, Gary Higgins of Idaho Falls; seven grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Hawker, son, Keith Allen Hawker, daughter, Carol Ann, brothers, Eugene, George and Wayne Higgins, sisters, Leora Walters and Joyce Jensen and one grandson Samuel Rodemack.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot.
The family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would especially like to thank the wonderful angels who cared for her the past 7 years at the Idaho Veterans Home in Pocatello.
