LaVoy Jay "Doc" Walker Obituary
LaVoy Jay "Doc" Walker, 89, of Blackfoot, passed away, Sunday, June 4, 2017 at his home in Wapello, Idaho. 
LaVoy was born Jan. 20, 1928 in Union, Utah to George Clifford Walker and Rosella Ann Sharp Walker. After LaVoy was four, the family moved to Blackfoot, Idaho from Utah. They settled in the Wapello area where he lived the remainder of his life.
He attended and graduated from Blackfoot High School. LaVoy then served our country in the United States Navy during WWII. Following his service in the Navy, he attended Weber State College for a short time.
On Feb. 22, 1950, LaVoy married Mary Darlene Herbst in Blackfoot. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1967. LaVoy worked in government security for the INL, and was promoted to Branch Chief before retiring in 1983.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a family history consultant, an indexer, and served in the Young Men's organization. He was also a faithful home teacher for many years. He was a member of the pistol team at the AEC and won many trophies.
In his free time he enjoyed fishing, tying flies, golfing, snowmobiling, keeping a daily journal and wrote an extensive life story. He also liked to be at the cabin he built in Island Park.
LaVoy is survived by his wife, Darlene of Wapello; son, Robert LaVoy (Judy Kay) Walker of Concord, NC; daughters, Cheryl Rae (Bob) Graham of Tremonton, Utah and Janice Kay (Jeff) Cook of Blackfoot. He had 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Rosella Walker; brother, Verdell Walker and sister, Geraldine Gardner.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Blackfoot Home Health and Hospice for their care.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 9 at Hawker Funeral Home. Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 8 at Hawker Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
