Lawrence Crnkovich Obituary
Lawrence Paul "Larry" Crnkovich passed away on June 1, 2017 in Blackfoot, Idaho at age 90. He was born on Jan. 22, 1927 in Tendoy, Idaho, the eighth child of Croatian immigrant parents Milan Charles and Antonija Palijan Crnkovich.
He married Naola A. Howell in Pocatello on June 1, 1951 and they were blessed to have four children, Paula (Jeff Millington), Lori (Brian Mattson), Lynn (Charley Kotter) and Mont (Stacy) Crnkovich.
Larry was a self-starter and began selling cars in 1951. He worked tirelessly and built up dealerships in Pocatello, Soda Springs, Blackfoot and Idaho Falls. Larry was a recognized business leader and served as president and director of many local and national boards, including National and Idaho Automobile Dealers Associations, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Blackfoot and Idaho Falls Chambers of Commerce, Eastern Idaho Technical College, Ford Dealer Council, National Ford Dealer Council and Blackfoot City Council. He received numerous professional honors and accolades, such as Time Magazine Dealer of the Year, Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary and awards from Ford Motor Company and Toyota.
His greatest joys came from his partnership with his wife orchestrating family projects and activities, teaching and helping to build character in kids and grandkids and untangling hundreds of fishing lines. He holds two caribou records in Boon and Crocket and was active as a member in the Amateur Trapshooting Association of America, but cherished the time he spent hunting, fishing, boating and traveling with family and friends. His keen intellect and quick wit always made things fun and exciting. He made friends all over the world and felt blessed to connect with his roots in Croatia.
Larry prized his many fishing and hunting buddies. He was always the first to lend a hand and was quick to recognize the talents of others he could enlist for hundreds of projects. You know who you are …
He was always reading, working crossword puzzles (in ink) and learning, starting from attending the one-room school house in Leadore, Idaho (a 50-mile bus ride) throughout high school in Williams, Calif. where he lettered in sports. He went to the army his senior year and continued his studies into his 90s.
He is survived by his wife, his four children and their spouses and 11 grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Paul (Nicole) Kotter, Leah (Aaron Mortensen), Jason Kotter and Kevin (Christi) Kotter; Neil, Emily, Ryan Mattson; Jordan Crnkovich, Cassidy (Sean Wareing), Cache Crnkovich and Carli Davis; and eight great grandchildren including Marcus, Nathan and Lexi Mortensen; Wade, Max and Lily Kotter; and Carlee and Kennedy Crnkovich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 6 at Blackfoot First Ward LDS Chapel. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 5 at Hawker Funeral Home and again for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery.
Condolences may be sent to www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
