Lela Going Olson Rodgers Obituary
Lela Going Olson Rodgers, 94 of Blackfoot passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Elegant Assisted Living.
Lela Going Olson Rodgers was born in Moreland, Idaho on Feb. 10, 1923. She was born to Claude B. and Ella Humphreys Going.
On June 7, 1941, Lela married Darwin Olson. To this union three children were born: Patsy Lee Nielson, Dianna Gayle Justesen and Don (Jackie) Olson. All three children preceded their mother in death.
In 1963, Lele married Larry Rodgers and they enjoyed life together, spending much of that time fishing, until Larry's death in May 2000. Lela lived and cared for herself for the next 14 years. At that time, her grandson Ken and his wife Jen convinced her to come stay with them for a while. She then moved into an Assisted Living facility in Pocatello.
This was a taxing time for her. Her son Don and his wife Jackie watched over her until Don's death in November 2016. After that, Jackie went over to spend time with Lela every weekday, caring for Lela as if she was her own mother.
Lela Going Olson Rodgers left this life Thursday, July 6, 2017. She left behind her daughter-in-law and major caregiver, Jackie Olson of Pocatello, her sisters Margene Stringham of Ceder Hills, Utah, Carol (Pete) Williams of Boise, Zelda (Stan) Phillips of Orting, Wash., Joan (Guy) Walker of Rockford, Idaho; Grandsons Ken (Jen) Nielson of Groveland, Rick Nielson, Jeff (Tonia) Findey of Rose; and several grandchildren.
Preceding Lela in death were her three children: Patsy, Dianna, and Don; husbands Darwin Olson and Larry Rodgers; brothers Gerald Going, Stanly Going, and Russell Going; sisters Edna Going Newcomb, Doris Going Bowman, Vera Going Fulmer, Beulah Going Lucero; and many friends.
A graveside service is scheduled for noon on Tuesday, July 11 at Hawker Funeral Home. A viewing and visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Graveside at the funeral home.
