Leland Dale Young Obituary
Leland Dale Young 89, longtime resident of Blackfoot, Idaho area passed away, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016 from causes incident to age.
Dale was born at home in Salem, Idaho September 14, 1927 to Charles Leland and Edith Ann Hope Young. He was the first born of three brothers. His younger brothers are Blaine and Gerald. He attended school in Rigby and also graduated from seminary. Dale enlisted in the Army March 1st 1946 and spent over a year in Korea. He was honorably discharged in August 1947.
Dale met Betty Jean Richardson from Hamer and quickly fell in love and they were married a month later in Dillon, Montana on October 20, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 10, 1983. They made their first home in Hamer and later lived in Roberts, Brigham City, Riverside, Firth and recently in Blackfoot.
Dale was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings including assistant clerk and home teacher for many years. He worked for many ranchers in the Hamer, Dubois area, ran a milk route picking up milk from Hamer/ Mud Lake area to Idaho Falls. He later went to work at the AEC for General Electric as a guard then transferred into the fire department when General Electric closed down. He then became employed at Thiokol in Brigham City Utah and later moved back to Idaho and bought a small farm in Riverside and raised cattle, and pigs and also worked at the gun plant in Pocatello where he worked as a guard for Thiokol. When the plant closed down he bought more livestock and a milk route picking up milk from Fort Hall to Pocatello. In the early 1970s he converted a truck into a septic pumper truck and started Young's Septic Service. He pumped septic tanks until the late 90s when he sold his business to his son Randy. They later sold their place to a grandson and moved to Firth where they lived for five years and then moved to Blackfoot. He enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, and snowmobiling but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Dale is survived by his children, Rex (Bobbi Jo) Young, Randy (Linda) Young and Marva (Brent) Williams and a son-in–law Shyrl Wheeler, all of Blackfoot, 13 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Leland and Edith Ann Hope Young, his wife, Betty Jean of 68 years, a daughter, Dalean Wheeler, infant son, Larry Young, a grandson, Clayton Young and his brothers, Blaine and Gerald Young.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 8 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue, Blackfoot. Family will meet with friends and relatives for an hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls Idaho.
