Lewis Elison Obituary
Lewis C. Elison, 90, of Blackfoot, Idaho, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015 at Bingham Memorial Hospital from complications following surgery.
Lewis was born Sept. 26, 1925 in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Marvin Elison and Leone Coolbear. Other than a couple of years in Price, Utah, and Burley, Idaho, he has lived in Blackfoot his entire life.
He graduated from Blackfoot High School. He was a Golden Gloves boxer and champion saddle bronc rider.  
On June 8, 1949 Lewis married Elaine Dunford in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She preceded him in death in 2003. He married Dona Hall on Dec. 11, 2004 in Blackfoot, Idaho.
He farmed in Riverton, worked as an auto parts manager for over 40 years at 20th Century Ford in Blackfoot and also a few years at dealerships in Burley and Price, Utah. His life was dedicated to his family and church. He square danced for a few years and liked to occasionally play cards with friends.
Lewis was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a former bishop, stake executive secretary, councilor in two bishoprics and served on the high council. He served a mission in his youth to Sweden and with his wife, Elaine, in Salt Lake City. He also worked in the temple with his wife, Elaine for several years and worked in the extraction program in genealogy work. He enjoyed helping with the Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife, Dona Elison of Blackfoot; children, Sandra (Doug) Nilsson of Burley, Michael (Marsha) Elison of Blackfoot, John (Sandy) Elison of Rockford and Todd (Debra) Elison of Blackfoot and Mark (Rachel) Elison, Sandy, Utah; daughter-in-law, Delena Elison of Idaho Falls; stepchildren, Stuart (Joan) Hall, Brad (Jacquelyn) Hall, Roger (Lisa) Hall and Marilyn (DarVel) Andersen; stepson-in-law, Vince Croft; brother, Doyle (Marion) Elison of Blackfoot; brother-in-law, Wesley (Norma) Pharis of Blackfoot; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Lewis was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine; son, Andrew Elison; stepdaughter, Colleen Croft; brother, LaVon Elison; sisters, Maureen Tolman and Naomi Pharis; and one grandson, Lucius Gardner.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015 at the Blackfoot South Stake Center, 900 Riverton Road with Bishop Wes Potter conducting. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at the Groveland Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
