Marge Leavitt Obituary
Marge Leavitt, 81, passed away April 24, 2017 at her home in Blackfoot, Idaho Monday morning with her family beside her.
Marge was born in Soda Springs, Idaho on Aug. 20, 1935 to Albert and Mildred Foster Swainston. She had four brothers: Dean, Lynn, Bob, and Don Swainston, and one sister Bonnie Lott all of whom preceded her in death.
Marge attended and graduated from Blackfoot High School. In the spring of her Junior year, at the age of 15, she became engaged to the love of her life.. Boyd Leavitt. They were married in front of the Christmas tree at her parents home on Dec. 17, 1952.
Together they had five children: Bret, Rick, Penny, Reed and Layne. After Rick was born she decided to stay with her kids and start a daycare in her home. Her daycare ran for over 30 years!
Dropping by the house at any given time you would see anywhere from 15-30 kids a day. This made her a big part of helping to raise many of the children in Blackfoot. It was common for her to be out doing errands, etc. and see a smiling face of someone she knew, all with only good things to say or stories to tell.
Together they moved to Battle Mountain, Nev. in 1989 to follow their sons and to be closer to grandchildren. Anyone will tell you she was always there with an open door, fridge, and heart to anyone that came by.
Marge and Boyd moved back from Nevada to Blackfoot in 1999. She than began to work for the State Hospital South in the dietary department from the Spring of 1999 to Winter 2001. She said she "dearly loved her patients and apparently the feeling is mutual!"
She was known to all, whether younger or older as "Gramma." She was twice nominated for employee of the month, and in May of 2001 she was chosen out of 6,000 employees!! She was grateful and so proud of her framed certificate! She later retired in 2002 to stay home and take care of her ailing mother.
Anyone in the Leavitt or Swainston family knows that not only was Marge a strong force to be reckoned with, but that her family meant everything to her and she has been the glue and our rock..always there to lean on.
Besides raising her children and a grandson, Tim Leavitt; Blackfoot, Marge also considered her nieces and nephews her own and treated them as such: Nick Swainston, Oklahoma; Kenny Swainston, Florida; Wendy Swainston (Marty Duchscher) preceded in death; Eddy (Jessica) Swainston, Nevada.
She is survived by her children: Penny (Brent) Stenersen, Pocatello; Reed (Geoffrey) Leavitt, Elko,NV; Layne Leavitt, Pocatello. Finally, but not at all in the least, Marge is survived by her 15 grandchildren and 22.5 great-grandchildren.
Although her husband preceded her in death nearly four years ago…she decided to celebrate his birthday with him in Heaven this year! Marge and Boyd, Mom and Dad, Gramma & Grampa. We love you, we miss you, but everyone of us knows that you're together again and we're so happy for you!!
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 29 at 879 Rich Ln. Blackfoot, beginning at 1 p.m. Please come to pay respects and celebrate the life of Marge Leavitt.
